Wasps, Crickets and Roaches...oh my!
I would include pictures, but even I hate looking at them.
Let's take a stroll down memory lane as to how my fear of these creatures came to be...
Wasps (2 stories)
1. One summer back before I could drive, I went over to my friend's aunt's pool that had a water slide. We were having a ton of fun playing on the slide, creating new ways to slide into the pool and ignoring the wasps flying around. I mean why should I be afraid of them at this point?? They hadn't done anything to me. One challenge we created was to see who could go down the slide feet first on your belly the slowest. (Yeah I know we were weird kids). I was up first. I climbed to the top, got in position and started my decent to the water gripping the underneath of the slide for support. Well wouldn't you know that's where the wasp nest was and sure enough I was stung!! I let go and screamed bloody murder the rest of the way down. Ouch!
2. During my last summer up at school, I took a scuba certification class. This particular day we were learning and trying out the giant step into the water with all of our scuba gear. I was patiently waiting my turn and all of a sudden my hand hurt. That's when I saw a yellow jacket fly away. Yep that little sucker stung me. But this time I did not scream or react in any other way because I didn't want to draw attention to myself. All I did was take my giant step into the pool and let the water soother my hand. By the time I went to bed that night, I had a huge bruise on the top of my hand. Not cool!
Those two incidents have led me to believe that all wasps are out to get me. Therefore, when I see one, I will turn and run the opposite direction.
Crickets
I don't remember having an issue with these little guys growing up, but this one time at Target changed everything. It was Jr. year of college and the outside wall of target was black with crickets...gross. My friends and I ran inside as fast as we could without incident...or so I thought. Walking through the store a little curl on my neck kept bothering me, but every time I would brush it away I didn't feel anything. Finally, my friend saw why it was bothering me...a cricket was stuck in it!!!!!! Ahhhhh. So yes, I freaked out in Target and haven't been the same since.
Roaches
I don't think I really need to elaborate on this. Just nasty. But I will if you really want to hear the stories...yes there are multiple.
