The Nail Files: Ombre

I'm sure we've all seen the ombre craze going on in the blog-o-sphere and on Pinterest. Well I decided I wanted to give it a go!

Not too shabby! I like the fading effect and of course I had to stick with my basic black nails (I swear I'm not goth). The colors I had were the black (pinky), the charcoal (ring finger), the silver (index finger) and white (but I didn't actually use plain white). To get the fading effect I used a tooth pick to mix the charcoal and the silver together for the middle finger and then attempted to mix the white and silver together to get a very light grey for my thumb, but it turned out more white than anything.

Now...I never did look at a tutorial so I wasn't sure how to paint on the colors I mixed together. So what did I do? I grabbed a cheap-o paint brush and went to work. Well by the time I got to my thumb nail (I started painting my pinky nails and let each nail dry before I moved on) my paint brush was as hard as a rock! I tried rinsing it off in the sink and then 'lightbulb' it's nail polish use nail polish remover. Sadly nail polish remover did not work and I ended up throwing the paint brush away. So I didn't know what else to do besides use one of the brushes from the polishes. I made sure to dab off as much mixed color as possible after so that I wouldn't ruin the normal color. Then I was done and ready for bed...ha ha. So there you have it...my great journey into ombre nails :)

*sorry for the bad iphone pictures...I tried to spruce them up with instagram and camera+ ha ha
