Let's start with the only movie currently in theaters shall we?
1. ParaNorman
Went to the movies by myself to see this last weekend (yes I was the creeper alone in the back of the theater who didn't have a kid with them) but I swear this was not a kid movie! I mean it did have a great message for kids about not bullying anyone for being different than you, BUT the adult references in this movie...I'm pretty sure the kids in this day and age can decipher them. There was a reference to an adult video store, a kid watching sex and violence on tv and to one character being gay. However, after saying all that I actually enjoyed this movie! Claymation is a little weird, but I kept laughing through the whole thing! And even today I remembered a part and started laughing at my desk...my co-workers probably think I'm crazy :)
...Now on to the movies I netflixed and recorded off HBO (sadly I don't have HBO any more boo)
2. Monte Carlo
Was this cheesy? You bet! But I liked it anyways. It's one of those movies you watch when there is nothing else to do or nothing else to watch on the television. It's one of those movies you watch just because you like one or two of the actors in it. It's one of those movies you watch because you figure there are going to be some cute boys in it...ha ha.
3. Water For Elephants
So if you know me IRL or have been reading for a while you would probably guess that I wanted to watch this movie because of
Edward Robert Pattison. Well you would be wrong...ha ha! I am a huge fan of Reese Witherspoon (who just had her baby boy yay!) and will watch anything she is in. (side note...I'll pretty much watch anything Kate Hudson acts in as well). I enjoyed this movie and loved the elephant in it! I love elephants almost as much as I love penguins. I hated the Ring Leader character in the movie and was so happy to how his story ended :) It's worth the watch if you have time.
4. Soul Surfer
This movie was another feel good movie like Dolphin Tale. It was all about the girl overcoming her horrific accident. I actually missed the first 15 minutes of this movie, but I found clips on YouTube and caught up after the movie was over. And really I didn't need to see those to still enjoy the rest of the movie. Oh and this is also the movie Carrie Underwood decided to make her acting debut in. And if you're wondering...the girl the movie is based on is now a professional surfer...you go girl!
5. Colombiana
This movie was bloody and violent and good! Zoe Saldana can kick some butt and move like a cat. This movie is all about revenge and how far you will go to get it. If you decide to watch this movie, watch it at night. I swear it makes a difference!
6. Lockout
Interesting movie. I mean totally predictable, but the concept of having a jail up in space is pretty cool. This movie was without any huge named celebs. Well at least they aren't well known to moi. Sometimes it's refreshing to see movies where you don't automatically know how the actor is going to play the part. And the main guy in the movie is really sarcastic, so I enjoyed that aspect...ha ha.
7. Wings (1927)
I think this is the last silent movie on my Oscar list! Well except for the Artist that won last year which I'm still confused on why someone decided to make a silent movie in this day and age. This movie was about dreams, friendship and unrequited love. These movies are really long and hard to pay attention to, but at the same time you have to pay attention because you need to read the scenarios in between scenes to know exactly what is happening. For example...trying to fold your laundry with your back to the tv is not helpful...ha ha. But if you get a phone call you don't have to pause the movie because you won't miss any of the dialogue...ha ha. So I guess there is a silver lining to silent movies :)
