February Showers Bring March Flowers

After a summer without rain, I swear it decided to come all at once in February. It already feels, looks and smells like spring time outside (granted we never really had a winter). What are the signs of spring around my neck of the woods...well my car is yellow from pollen, my allergies are kicking up and the flowers in my back yard are starting to bloom...

Pink Azaleas
I love how the insides looks silver...like tiny rhinestones
Pink waxed begonias and a weathered bird house
Lots of begonias!

Megamind

I was a little disappointed in this movie, but then again I was comparing it to The Incredibles. As far as animated movies go it wasn't bad, but I did realize something my favorite animated character is always the minions...ha ha. I loved them in Despicable Me and the one from this movie voiced by David Cross.

As much as they promoted Brad Pitt for this movie he actually wasn't in it very much. I actually wanted to watch this movie because of him especially since Will Ferrell has been annoying me lately, but Will Ferrell wasn't that annoying which surprised me. If you are a fan of animated movies, I say watch it. If you aren't, then skip it.

Veggie Pancakes

In honor of national pancake day last Tuesday (Feb. 28th) I made veggie pancakes for dinner.

I really wanted to make these using yellow squash and zucchini, but I had to settle with a different kind of squash (it started with a C) since the grocery store was out of both.

I based my recipe off of this one.  Since I don't like onions I used onion powder and also added garlic powder. I used about half a cup of flour as well. These were pretty good and I definitely plan on making them again.

Did you celebrate national pancake day?

In Time

This was an interesting movie that got better as time went on. It was like a in the future Bonnie and Clyde.

So Justin Timberlake isn't a great actor, but I didn't really mind him in this role. Amanda Seyfried didn't say much in the movie, but it played well into who her character was and where she came from. Overall, the movie is about what you would do to stay alive and how money or in this case time can change your perspective on things.

Rodeo - Luke Bryan

It's RODEO time! Woo Hoo!!!!! This past weekend we went to see Luke Bryan make his debut at the rodeo...it was also my first time to see him as well. Here's a little recap...

Bareback riding
The bulls shutout the cowboys...I'm not sure anyone made it past 6 seconds
Luke Byran likes to shake his booty...a lot!
Singing his heart out!
Who knew he could play the piano?!?!
Luke Bryan was really good and energetic...he is constantly moving around the stage. It was an awesome first rodeo for the season and I can't wait for my next one!

Are you going to the rodeo?

The Vow

Cute movie, but it's not The Notebook which is what everyone was comparing it to. If I am going to be totally honest, it is along the same story line as The Notebook. They are both about having love, losing love and trying to find it all over again.

The Vow is actually based on a true true story, which makes it even more touching as the story progresses. It's definitely a good date movie and Valentine's was definitely the right time to release it.

Cupcake Pinata

My cousin and his wife also wanted a pinata for their son's birthday so I volunteered to make one. I mean I made this one and it turned out okay so why not try again (plus I also promised to make another one for a friend in April so I need practice...ha ha).

To make the base I used the smallest trash can I could find and paper mached over that (the only thing I wish is that it wasn't so straight). Once the base was dry, I made the top portion using a balloon just like last time. I also tried to make it a little weaker this time hoping that someone would be able to smash it. Next, I filled it with kid friendly snacks, Goldfish and Cheese-its.  I ran into a problem when I was trying to hang it...uh oh! The top wasn't strong enough so the knot kept tearing a bigger hole in the top and the weight of the pinata was also making part of the top cave in. I didn't know what to do, so I thought I would give mod podge a try and it worked like a charm...thank goodness!

Once I was sure the knot would hold the pinata, I started decorating it. I used dark blue crepe paper for the bottom and light blue for the top. I wanted the bottom to look more like a cupcake wrapper so I folded the tops of each layer of crepe paper down a little to make them stick out. And to add a finishing touch, I cut out two ones using my cricut machine and glued them together with the string between the two.

Ta-da! No one wanted to smash it, but I made them! We had a hard time smashing it with a plastic hammer, but eventually I stepped in and put a hole in it and my other cousin's two year old was able to bring it down!

p.s. If you're thinking it looks like a hot air balloon or a light bulb, you're not alone...you have to use your imagination to see it as a cupcake...kind of like when you look at the sky and try and see shapes or objects in the clouds.
